Sitges is just 35km south of Barcelona in the Catalan region of Spain and enjoys a privileged location between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains.
Places of Interest
- The Casa de la Vila, 19th century neo-gothic building, and the Palau Maricel, which bring together medieval, Renaissance and Barroque elements.
- The modernists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries have left Sitges beautiful buildings such as Cau Ferrat, the studio of the writer and painter Santiago Rusiñol.

- One of the most traditional dish is the xató, made from endive, cod, tuna, anchovies and olives, and dressed with a romescu sauce (roasted peppers, toasted almonds, garlic, oil and chilli)
Some restaurants linked to "Ruta del Xató" (the 17th year of the event) include special menus with this dish. These restaurants are: Boccalino, Cafè Bar Roy, Esmarris (Hotel Dolce), Iris Gallery (Hotel Estela), La Concha (Hotel San Sebastián), La Pèrgola (Hotel Antemare), Los Vikingos, Picnic. But you'll find the Xató at many others like La Nansa or La Salseta, traditional restaurants well known in Sitges (find out more here)
- Cuttlefish stew with potatoes and ali-oli (garlic mayonnaise), tuna casserole and fideuá are other delights prepared in Sitges
- Another well-known dish is "arròs a la Sitgetana" this is a dish based on rice to which some seafood and products from the countryside are added
- Two of the best restaurants in Sitges for traditional food are is La Nansa and "La Salseta". They belong to Slow-Food movement and to "Restaurants Km0" (quality products from producers that are at less than 100 km).

In Sitges there is a traditional bar that is more than 60 years old "El Cable" that prepares "Tapas" and it's the bar that won last year’s prize of "Best tapa of the year in Catalonia" with the tapa called "Nemo" (and it has won the "Sitges Tapas contest" for 3 years). It's well worth a visit.
The Sitges wine is "Malvasia de Sitges". In the eighteenth century the Malvasia grape made up ¼ of the crops cultivated in Sitges, although now there are only 2.5 hectares under cultivation. The Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity has included the Malvasia de Sitges in its Ark of Taste list (small-scale quality productions under threat). Find out more here.
